The internet world is full of invasions, and nowadays no one can guarantee you safety. Most of the companies praise themselves how they can protect your privacy and unwanted intrusion. Unfortunately, the most common cases are an invasion of privacy and identity theft. Many social networks encourage their users to publish online and to post photos. They are accessible to millions of people, and anyone who has access to the internet can post a photo, text or other online data. Because of this, many users don’t understand that they are committing a crime, which can lead to invasion of privacy.
What is an invasion of privacy?
When someone posts a photo of another person online, which was taken in some compromising position of showing an inappropriate behavior, it is yet to be determined if this is an invasion of privacy. These acts are shared among the family and friends. On the other hand, compromising videos and photos that have a goal to humiliate another person, often happen in break ups. In this case, an individual who has been compromised has a right to sue the other person who had an intention to do some harm. There are four ways to bring a claim of invasion of privacy.
Unreasonable Intrusion and Appropriation of Likeness
When an individual’s privacy is invaded, in such way that is unreasonable, it usually means that photos or other compromising material are taken in a private place, such as a residence. Some other person usually took the pictures, and they can be recorded at the hotel room, private home or some other place when he and his loved ones live.
Public Disclosure and False Light
The public disclosure happens when individual’s acts are publicly shared of displayed on some social media. The action is usually offensive because the person has probably participated in some discriminating activities, for example, use of drugs, violent driving and excessive drinking. This material provides the means to sue an individual who published this content online. Casting a false light is misleading in some manner. It causes other people to believe that some person is involved in some actions that he or she don’t want to be a part of it.
